Our Story

It is a non-profit organization solely devoted to the service of the poor, most disadvantaged and marginalized people irrespective of caste, creed, ethnicity, and nationality.

Registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under Nepal’s District Administration Office, Lalitpur, with the registration no: 85/047/48, and in accordance with the Society Registration Act 2034 B.S, Caritas is the social service arm of the Catholic Church in Nepal and member of the Caritas International confederation and Caritas Asia.

It is also affiliated with Nepal’s Social Welfare Council (SWC) under registration no: 248-356.

Caritas Nepal applies animation approach and sector-specific participatory approaches to empower the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged class of people to reduce poverty, hunger, secure humanitarian assistance in the situation of man-made and natural emergency and therefore to realize social justice and peace.

With the vision of creating peaceful, equitable and just society, where there is solidarity among people and respect for human dignity, Caritas Nepal works on the sectors of social justice and community development, disaster risk management, sustainable livelihoods, migrants, refugee and anti-trafficking, emergency and recovery supports as well as advocacy on social concerns.

Caritas Nepal’s Strategic Direction

Objective 1

Communities pursue sustainable livelihood options for reduced poverty.

Outcome

  • Enhanced nutrition and household food security.
  • Increased household income with increased investment in basic need and well-being.
  • Reduced risk and vulnerabilities for improved livelihood security.

Objective 3

People in emergency and humanitarian crisis are empowered to cope and recover from crisis and sustainably rebuild their lives and join mainstream development.

Outcome

  • Survival, safety and dignity of communities in situation of humanitarian crisis is secured.
  • Affected communities are able to recover and sustainably rebuild their lives and join mainstream development.
  •  Individuals and communities in difficult situation are able to cope and successfully reintegrate socio-economically with their communities. 

Objective 2

Vibrant, strong and influential communities realize basic human rights, right to development and reduce disaster risks.

Outcome

  •  Improved sense of social justice with better and equitable access to resources, opportunities, privilege and services.
  • Increased social inclusion with meaningful participation of the excluded groups in social system, process, community based institutions and decision making.
  • Improved peace and human security with strong social harmony and solidarity.
  • Disaster resilient communities with reduced disaster risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Access to appropriate water sanitation and hygiene facilities.
